Bihar Weather Alert: Orange Alert for Rain in Rohtas, Aurangabad on October 29

Bihar Weather Alert: Cyclonic System to Bring Rain, Thunderstorms and Lightning; Orange Alert Issued for Several Districts

Patna, October 26, 2026: Bihar is likely to experience a significant change in weather over the coming days as a developing cyclonic system over the Bay of Bengal is expected to bring rain, thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds to several parts of the state. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast increased rainfall activity from October 28, with an orange alert for heavy rain in selected districts on October 29.

According to the weather forecast, the impact of the system is expected to become more noticeable between October 29 and 30, while unsettled conditions may continue in several areas for three to four days. Residents have been advised to remain alert to official weather updates and take precautions during thunderstorms and lightning.

Rohtas, Aurangabad Among Districts Under Orange Alert

The weather department has issued an orange alert for heavy rainfall in Aurangabad, Bhabua, Buxar, Rohtas and West Champaran on October 29. Several other districts may also experience thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds during this period.

The intensity and timing of rainfall may vary from one district to another. The IMD has also forecast very heavy rainfall and thunderstorm activity over Bihar on October 29 and 30, followed by the possibility of heavy rain on October 31.

Cyclonic System Over the Bay of Bengal

The anticipated change in Bihar’s weather is linked to a developing low-pressure system over the east-central and adjoining south-eastern Bay of Bengal. According to meteorological forecasts, the system is expected to intensify and move towards the Indian coastline.

Its influence is likely to increase moisture and trigger rainfall, thunderstorms and strong winds across parts of Bihar. While the coastal regions may face stronger winds, Bihar is expected to experience the system mainly through rain, lightning and gusty weather.

Temperatures Show Fluctuations Across Bihar

Bihar has been experiencing fluctuations in maximum and minimum temperatures ahead of the expected weather change. According to the Live Hindustan report, Dehri in Rohtas recorded a minimum temperature of 16°C, while Aurangabad registered the state’s highest maximum temperature of 34.9°C on Sunday.

The approaching system could bring changes in daytime temperatures and make conditions cooler in areas receiving rainfall.

Farmers and Residents Advised to Stay Alert

Rain, lightning and strong winds may disrupt normal activities, cause waterlogging in low-lying areas and damage standing crops or harvested produce. Strong gusts could also affect temporary structures, tin roofs and tree branches.

Farmers have been advised to protect harvested crops and move produce stored in the open to safe, dry locations. People should avoid working in open fields during thunderstorms and seek shelter inside a sturdy building.

During lightning, residents should stay away from isolated trees, electric poles, water bodies and open spaces. People should also avoid travelling through waterlogged roads or areas with strong water currents during heavy rainfall.

IMD Forecast for the Coming Days

The weather is expected to remain largely stable in some areas initially, before rainfall activity increases from October 28. October 29 is expected to be a particularly important day for districts under the orange alert, with heavy rainfall and thunderstorms possible.

Residents are advised to follow the latest IMD bulletins and local administration advisories, as weather conditions and alert levels may change with the movement and intensity of the cyclonic system.
