Bihar Weather Update
Patna, Bihar: Bihar is witnessing an early spell of rising temperatures, with weather patterns indicating the onset of pre-summer heat well before the traditional mid-March to May season. Across several districts, mercury levels are climbing steadily, prompting residents to prepare for hot and dry conditions in the days ahead.
In Patna, the state capital, daytime temperatures have been recorded above seasonal averages, with forecasts suggesting that they could rise further in the coming days. According to local weather data, temperatures in parts of the region are expected to edge up by 1–4 °C over the next 48 hours, resulting in hotter conditions for outdoor activities and daily routines.
The Meteorological Centre in Patna reports that the overall weather is likely to remain dry, with clear to partly cloudy skies dominating much of the forecast period. While mornings and evenings might still retain a slight chill due to prevailing westerly winds, the daytime heat will be felt more intensely as the season progresses.
Some districts have already experienced maximum temperatures breaching the 30 °C mark, signaling the retreat of winter and the gradual transition into warmer months. For example, places such as Kaimur recorded daytime highs exceeding 31 °C, while other major cities like Gaya, Bhagalpur and Muzaffarpur also reported elevated temperatures.
According to climate averages, Patna’s March temperatures typically reach around 30–32 °C, with nights cooling down significantly. However, the recent trend of rising heat could push daily highs closer to the mid-30s as the summer season approaches.
Meteorologists warn that this early increase in heat is consistent with broader weather patterns across northern India, where above-normal temperatures and a rising number of heatwave days are expected through March to May. Nationwide forecasts from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) suggest that much of the country, including Bihar, could experience hotter-than-normal summer conditions, with the possibility of heatwave spells later in the season.
Experts advise residents to take necessary precautions, especially during peak afternoon hours, by staying hydrated, avoiding prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, and looking after vulnerable groups such as the elderly, children and outdoor workers. As the region transitions toward the summer season, local authorities may also step up preparedness measures to mitigate heat-related impacts on health and daily life.
