Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has expressed deep sorrow over the deaths caused by the stampede at New Delhi Railway Station. He announced that the families of those from Bihar who lost their lives in the incident would receive financial assistance. The CM declared a compensation of ₹2 lakh each for the families of the deceased and ₹50,000 for the injured from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
A statement released by the Chief Minister’s Office said, “Nitish Kumar has expressed his condolences for the deceased. He is deeply saddened by the loss of lives of Bihar residents in this unfortunate incident. The families of the victims will receive ₹2 lakh each, while the injured will be provided ₹50,000 as financial aid.”
Notably, the stampede occurred at New Delhi Railway Station as passengers were preparing to travel to the Mahakumbh. The chaos reportedly erupted after rumors spread about the cancellation of two trains bound for Prayagraj. As a result, at least 18 people have been reported dead, while several others have sustained injuries.
