Bihar CM Nitish Kumar’s Independence Day Speech 2025: Key Highlights

On the occasion of India’s 79th Independence Day (August 15, 2025), Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar addressed the state from Gandhi Maidan in Patna, marking another chapter in his long tenure as leader. His speech this year focused on good governance, socio-economic reforms, public safety, youth empowerment, education, and new opportunities for Bihar’s citizens. Here are the major highlights from his Independence Day address:

1. Record Employment Generation & Job Initiatives

Nitish Kumar reaffirmed his government’s commitment to youth employment, proudly announcing that Bihar has already fulfilled and surpassed the 2020 “Saat Nischay 2” (Seven Resolutions) promise of 10 lakh jobs and an additional 10 lakh livelihood opportunities. He pledged that one crore (10 million) more jobs and employment opportunities would be created in the next five years, underlining the government’s focus on engaging Bihar’s large youth population in meaningful work.

2. Competitive Exam Fee Relief

A landmark announcement from the CM was the reform in competitive examination fees: going forward, students will pay a flat fee of ₹100 for all preliminary tests and there will be no fee at all for mains examinations in government recruitment drives. This move is designed to encourage more young people, especially from underprivileged backgrounds, to pursue government jobs and education, furthering economic mobility and opportunity.

3. Decline in Crime & Increased Public Safety

Nitish Kumar highlighted the significant improvement in law and order throughout Bihar since 2005, citing a marked reduction in incidents of murder, robbery, kidnapping, and dacoity. He credited government reforms for creating an environment where people can now move about, shop, and work late into the night without fear, fostering a sense of security statewide.

4. Progress in Education & Health

The Chief Minister emphasized major strides in education infrastructure and recruitment, noting the increase in the number of schools, reduction in teacher shortages, and corresponding gains in student outcomes. Similarly, health sector advancements were recognized, thanks to better facilities and wider access to care.

5. Development, Social Reform & Disaster Response

Nitish Kumar spoke of Bihar’s ongoing journey toward comprehensive development, including rural and urban improvement, better water management, disaster response (including his recent aerial survey of flood-affected areas), and efforts toward inclusivity and social harmony.

6. Appeal for Unity and Progress

Concluding his address, the CM called upon all citizens—regardless of political affiliation—to work together in a spirit of unity for Bihar’s continued advancement. He promised a transparent, accountable governance model and reaffirmed his vision of a peaceful, prosperous Bihar as a vital partner in building a “Viksit Bharat” (Developed India).

Summary:
Nitish Kumar’s 2025 Independence Day speech was marked by optimism, people-centric reforms, and bold new promises for job creation and youth advancement, echoing the aspirations of Bihar’s people and striving to make the state a beacon of hope, growth, and opportunity.
