Vijay Prakash Meena
Siwan, Bihar: A special cleanliness drive was organised in Siwan ahead of Gandhi Jayanti, with District Magistrate Vijay Prakash Meena personally participating in the campaign at the historic Mahendranath Temple and Kamaldah Sarovar in Mehndaar.
The initiative was conducted under the Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 campaign and focused on encouraging greater public participation in maintaining cleanliness at religious, cultural and other public places.
The cleanliness programme began in the morning, with district officials, government employees, elected representatives, volunteers and local residents joining the campaign. Participants carried out cleaning activities around the temple premises and the sarovar as part of the voluntary service drive.
District Magistrate Vijay Prakash Meena participated in the cleanliness activities and appealed to residents to make cleanliness a regular part of their daily lives.
The administration emphasised that keeping public spaces clean cannot be the responsibility of government agencies alone. Active participation from residents, community organisations and local institutions is equally important for creating a cleaner environment.
Officials and participants also took a cleanliness pledge during the programme, committing themselves to maintaining cleanliness in their homes, workplaces and public spaces.
Several senior administrative officials and public representatives participated in the campaign. Siwan Superintendent of Police Bharat Soni and Deputy Development Commissioner Amitabh Singh were among those present.
Siwan MP Vijaylakshmi Kushwaha and Barharia MLA Indradev Singh also participated in the programme along with other local representatives and members of the community.
The participation of local residents and voluntary organisations was also encouraged as part of the administration’s broader effort to turn cleanliness into a sustained community initiative rather than a one-day activity.
A special pledge programme was also organised in connection with International Day of Older Persons. Senior citizens, along with public representatives and administrative officials, participated in the programme and took a pledge to contribute towards cleanliness and a healthier environment.
Officials highlighted the importance of involving people from different sections of society in cleanliness and civic-awareness initiatives.
The cleanliness campaign was not limited to Mehndaar. Activities were also organised in Siwan city on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti.
At Malviya Chowk, the District Magistrate flagged off a sanitation vehicle deployed for cleanliness activities in different parts of the city. Municipal teams subsequently carried out cleaning operations and removed accumulated waste from roads and surrounding areas.
The district administration has stressed that cleanliness should not remain limited to Gandhi Jayanti or special campaigns. The objective is to encourage residents to take regular responsibility for maintaining clean surroundings.
The Siwan administration has appealed to residents to keep their homes, neighbourhoods and public places clean and to avoid littering.
The campaign at Mahendranath Temple and Kamaldah Sarovar was aimed at reinforcing the message that cleanliness becomes sustainable when government efforts are supported by active community participation.
