Siwan
Siwan is one of the 243 assembly constituencies in Bihar and a key battleground in the Bihar Assembly Elections 2025. The primary political parties active here include the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Janata Dal (United) or JD(U), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and the Indian National Congress (INC).
The current Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Siwan is Awadh Bihari Chaudhary of the RJD, who won the seat in the 2020 elections. Prior to this, the constituency was a BJP stronghold with Vyas Deo Prasad winning in 2015. The 2020 election was notably competitive, with over 169,000 voters turning out, which accounted for a 54.42% voter turnout in the constituency.
In preparation for the 2025 elections, the Election Commission of India conducted a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls for Siwan to ensure every eligible voter is registered. This is the first such revision since 2003 and aims to facilitate a more comprehensive and accurate voting process.
Siwan Poll Guide for Bihar Assembly Election 2025: Voting Date, Full Schedule, Candidates and Key Details
Key dates for Siwan’s elections are set with the notification on October 10, 2025, and the last date for nominations on October 17. Scrutiny of nominations will follow on October 18, and the withdrawal deadline is October 20. Polling will be conducted on November 6, 2025, as part of phase 1 of Bihar elections. Exit polls and results are expected on November 11 and November 14, respectively. The Model Code of Conduct is currently in force, ensuring a fair and transparent election process.
The constituency has seen close electoral contests over the years. In 2020, Awadh Bihari Chaudhary won against BJP’s Om Prakash Yadav with a margin of 1973 votes. The political contest here is intense, with victory margins generally below 5%, making it one of the tightly contested seats in Bihar.
Looking at past elections, the BJP had a strong presence here with substantial victories in 2015 and 2010. However, the 2020 win by RJD’s Awadh Bihari marked a notable shift, disrupting the BJP’s dominance. This indicates changing political dynamics and a high level of voter engagement in Siwan.
Political analysts highlight Siwan as a crucial seat where alliances, voter base mobilization, and candidate selection will significantly impact the overall outcome. The 2025 elections will test whether RJD can maintain its position or if BJP and other parties like JD(U) and Congress can reclaim influence in this region.
With the Model Code of Conduct in place, the focus is now on fair campaigning and voter outreach. Given the historical voting patterns and recent political developments, Siwan remains a key constituency to watch for the Bihar Assembly Elections 2025. The results here will be indicative of broader trends and could influence government formation in the state.
