10 Famous Foods of Bihar
  1. Litti Chokha

Litti Chokha is a part of Bihari cuisine. It is a traditional food eaten in Bihar. You can eat it by making it for lunch, dinner or on holidays. Litti is stuffed with sattu (roasted gram flour) and some special spices and is served with brinjal chokha or ghee.

  1. Malpua

If you ever go to visit Bihar in future, then definitely eat Malpua. This is a dish made in North India. It is very tasty and the method of making them is very easy. Malpua is also eaten with Rabri and Kheer and is also known as Kheerpua.

Malpua is prepared from a combination of refined flour, milk, banana, grated coconut, cashews, raisins, sugar, water and green cardamom fried in ghee.

The first name that comes to mind in reference to the traditional food of Bihar is Dalpuri. It is basically a type of bread made from wheat flour. In this, boiled lentils are filled and fried in oil.

If you go to Bihar and haven’t tasted Makhana-Kheer, then what did you do? This is a famous recipe of Darbhanga region of North Bihar. It is a sweet dish made with milk, sugar and makhana.

Silao village, located about 15 km from Bihar Sharif and 8 km from Rajgir, is known for its ancient tradition of Khaja making. Chandshahi, Gol, Palvidar and Gandhi Topa – A sweet prepared with maida (wheat-flour), sugar and ghee, it is available in many varieties. The rectangular shaped Khaja is most popular among the people.

6.Balushahi (Runi Saidpur)

Runi-Saidpur village falls on Muzaffarpur-Sitamarhi road which is famous for sandshahi. Balushahi is cooked with ghee, which comprises the sweet of a special treat combination of maida (wheat flour) and sugar.


The city of Chapra in Bihar is famous for Perukia. It is like a cake. It is prepared with a mixture of sugar, khoya/semolina, all purpose flour, water and ghee.


Shakarpara and Thekua are sweets made from maida (wheat flour) and sugar. They are prepared by the combination of maida in ghee and sugar, only on special occasions.

Talking about Bihari cuisine, how can we forget Maner Ka Laddu. Laddus is given the name of a sweet ball. It is made from gram flour, sugar and ghee. Although you will find laddus in every sweet shop of Bihar, people like the laddus made of Maner specially. Maner is 30 km west of Patna.

10 Brinjal ka bharta

Baingan-ka-Bharta is a traditional Bihari dish. It is commonly eaten in the Bhojpuri speaking area of North-West Bihar.
